Nomi and Kindroid are the two apps people name when they want a companion that remembers them, and they are closer to each other than either is to Character.AI. The difference is philosophy: Nomi tries to remember for you, Kindroid gives you the controls and lets you decide. Both are rated 18+.
What is the main difference between Nomi and Kindroid?
Nomi automates memory, Kindroid hands it to you.
Nomi describes its memory as short, medium and long term and builds it from conversation on its own. Kindroid lets you write a detailed backstory and key memories directly, so you decide what your companion always knows. People who like to tinker usually prefer Kindroid; people who want it to just work usually prefer Nomi.

Which has better memory, Nomi or Kindroid?
It depends on whether you want to manage it.
Nomi is the better choice if you never want to think about memory: it is designed to pick things up by itself. Kindroid is the better choice if you want certainty, because whatever you put into its backstory and key memories is always there. Does Nomi or Kindroid have video calls?
Kindroid does; Nomi does not list them.
Kindroid's help center says voice and video calls require an active subscription or free trial, and live avatar video calls are available for subscribers. During a call it charges 400 credits a minute, and live avatar video adds about 2,500 (standard) or 4,500 (premium) audio credits a minute on top. Nomi's own feature list covers voice chats and a hands-free call, but no live video.
Which is cheaper, Nomi or Kindroid?
The same per month, Nomi is clearly cheaper per year.
On the US App Store both cost $15.99 a month. A year of Nomi is $99.99, a year of Kindroid is $159.99. Kindroid adds optional Ultra ($28.99) and MAX ($68.99) subscriptions, extra companion slots and selfie credits, and audio credits ($14.99 for 500k) for heavy voice and video use. Nomi also lists a cheaper Launch Plan at $9.99 a month or $59.99 a year. Third party sources report lower prices when you buy Kindroid on the web.

Nomi if you want several companions and memory that runs by itself. Kindroid if you want one companion you configure in detail and voice or video calls.

You answer 14 questions in three chapters, the app generates the face and voice, and your companion keeps notes on what you tell her. Live video calls, voice messages, calls and games are part of Premium (€7.99 a week or €139.99 a year) and Ultra (€17.99 a week or €249.99 a year), with weekly limits instead of credit packs. Prices are Google Play Germany in euros. Weaker than Nomi on group chats, and less configurable than Kindroid.
