How it works
Can an AI girlfriend video call you? The apps that can in 2026
Yes, a few AI companion apps can now video call you: the character appears on screen and answers in real time. Many more advertise "video" and mean something else, usually short generated clips. Here is the difference, which apps have the real thing as of October 2026, and what a call costs.
Can an AI girlfriend actually video call you?
Yes. In a live video call the character is on screen, listens to you and answers in real time, with her face moving as she speaks.
That is a different thing from an app sending you a video message. A call is a conversation you can interrupt. A clip is generated once, after you ask, and plays the same way whatever you say next.
Which AI companion apps have live video calls?
As of October 2026, Kindroid and X-Friend offer live video calls; others offer clips or voice only.
| App | What "video" means | Who gets it |
|---|---|---|
| X-Friend | Live video call with the character you created; she can move the call to another place | Premium and Ultra, minutes per week |
| Kindroid | Live avatar video call with real-time lip sync and gestures | Subscribers, billed in audio credits per minute |
| Candy.ai | Generated video clips of up to about a minute in reply to messages | Paid with tokens |
| Replika | 3D avatar and voice calls; top tier adds video recognition of your camera | Paid plans |
| Nomi | Voice chats and a hands-free voice call, no live video listed | Free and paid |
| Character.AI | Voice calls with characters | Free, unlimited with c.ai+ |
What is the difference between a video clip and a video call?
Timing and listening.
A clip is rendered in advance and plays like a short film, which allows more spectacular pictures but no reply to what you say during it. A live call has to produce the picture as she talks, so the image is simpler, but she reacts to you: you laugh, she laughs, you change the subject, she follows. If an app's video feature costs per clip and plays without sound from you, it is a clip.
How much does an AI video call cost?
It is always paid, because live video is expensive to run.
Kindroid's help center lists 400 credits a minute for calls plus about 2,500 (standard) or 4,500 (premium) audio credits a minute for live avatar video, on top of a subscription that is $15.99 a month on the US App Store. In X-Friend, video calls are included in Premium (€7.99 a week or €139.99 a year) and Ultra (€17.99 a week or €249.99 a year) with a set number of minutes per week, without separate credits. X-Friend prices are Google Play Germany in euros.
What is a video call with X-Friend like?
You call the character you built, and she picks up as herself.
She has the face the creator generated for her and the same voice as in her calls and voice messages, talks in real time and remembers what you wrote in the chat. Ask her to go to the kitchen or the beach and after a few seconds she is there. Your camera is optional; with it on, she gets occasional still frames and can react to what she sees. On Android and in the web app, adults can switch a call to spicy: she appears in lingerie, never nude. The free plan has no video calls.
What should I check before paying for AI video calls?
Four things, and the free tier usually lets you check two of them.
- Is it live? Interrupt her mid sentence. A real call reacts.
- Is it her? The face and voice should match the character you chat with, not a stock avatar.
- Does she remember? Mention something from the chat and see if the call knows it.
- What does a minute cost? Credits per minute and minutes per week are both fine, as long as you know the number before you start.
Questions people ask
Is there an AI girlfriend app with video calls?
Yes. As of October 2026, Kindroid offers live avatar video calls to subscribers and X-Friend offers live video calls in its Premium and Ultra plans. Candy.ai generates video clips rather than live calls.
Can I video call my AI girlfriend for free?
Generally not. Live video is expensive to run, so the apps that offer it put it behind a subscription, credits or both.
Does Replika have video calls?
Replika has a 3D avatar and voice calls on its paid plans. Its top tier adds what the company describes as real-time video recognition, which lets the companion see through your camera. That is different from the character appearing as live video.
Can an AI girlfriend video call on iPhone?
Kindroid's app is on the App Store. X-Friend runs in the browser on iPhone, including video calls, while the iPhone app is not yet in the App Store.
